SUMMARY:In Their Shoes: Activity and Conversation around Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships
DESCRIPTION:All teens\, ages 13-18\, are welcome to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders for activity and discussion around Teen Dating Relationships! \nAll teens (13-18 years old) are welcome to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders for this event! \nHopeWorks’ Youth Leadership Project is hosting an interactive workshop to help their peers explore and learn more of the elements that different relationships hold. Dating violence is more common than people think\, especially among teens and young adults: one in three teens in the US will experience physical\, sexual\, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before they become adults\, and nearly half (43%) of college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors. \nIn this interactive workshop\, participants become one of six characters based on the experiences of real teens. They make choices about the character’s relationship and move through scenarios by reading about interactions with their character’s dating partner\, family\, friends\, and others. The activity is followed by a debriefing discussion on dating violence. This TDVAM\, join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders as they reflect upon the elements of the different relationships that may surround us. The Youth Leaders will also be utilizing the later half of this workshop to highlight what healthy relationships look and feel like\, and will close with an introduction of their Healthy Relationships Zine and Media Representation Zine! \n  \nClick Here to Register!

SUMMARY:"I Can\, I Will": A Teen Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:HopeWorks’ Youth Leadership Project wants to hear from YOU! \nWhat values are most important to you? How can we act within the legacy of Martin Luther King\, Jr. to create the world we want to live in? Where do peace and transformation intersect? \nThis coming MLK day\, HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders\, in partnership with the Howard County Martin Luther King\, Jr. Holiday Commission\, strive to engage and continue these important conversations of non-violence\, peace\, and social justice that Martin Luther King\, Jr. advocated for. \nYoung people ages 13 to 18 are invited to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders as teens engage in conversation around non-violence\, peace\, and social justice. Conversation will involve how these topics may or may not show up in teens’ daily lives and how today’s realities impact their visibility. We hope to learn and share with each other in a way that can provide the most relief. \nThis listening session asks all who are present to be ready to engage verbally. The more conversation the better. The point is hearing what teenagers\, ages 13-18\, think and feel. Your voice is important! \nQuestions? Please contact Victoria Rain\, Community Educator\, at vrain@hopeworksofhc.org. \nClick Here to Register!

SUMMARY:MLK Day Listening Session for Teens
DESCRIPTION:As HopeWorks continues to grow and center our work around creating a world free from violence\, we understand that society’s racist structures have impacted our relationships with each other and the world. It is important to talk about the ways we engage with each other in terms of peace and intersectionality; and constantly be open to learn. This coming MLK day\, HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders strive to engage and continue these important conversations of non-violence\, peace\, and social justice that Martin Luther King\, Jr. advocated for. \nYoung people age 13 to 18 are invited to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders as teens engage in conversation around non-violence\, peace\, and social justice. Conversation will involve how these topics may or may not show up in teens’ daily lives and how today’s realities impact their visibility. We hope to learn and share with each other in a way that can provide the most relief. \nClick Here to Register!\n  \nTo download event flier\, click here.
