SUMMARY:MLK Day Of Celebration: HopeWorks "I Can I Will" Teen Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:  \nWhat values are most important to you? How can we act within the legacy of Martin Luther King\, Jr. to create the world we want to live in? Where do peace and transformation intersect? \nThis coming MLK day\, HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders in partnership with the MLK Day of Service Commission\, strive to engage and continue these important conversations of non-violence\, peace\, and social justice that Martin Luther King\, Jr. advocated for. In the time of COVID-19 and so much changing for teens\, it’s important to take the time to listen to teenagers and hear what’s important to them and how they honor\, or want to honor\, Martin Luther King\, Jr’s legacy. \nThis listening session asks all who are present to be ready to engage in verbal or written engagement (through the chat). The more conversation the better. The point is hearing what teenagers\, ages 12-18\, think and feel. Your voice is important! \nQuestions? Please contact MC Carey\, Community Educator\, at mcarey@hopeworksofhc.org. \n  \nClick Here to Register!

SUMMARY:Restoration: A Peer Support & Education Group for Individuals Living with Chronic Pain Conditions
DESCRIPTION:HopeWorks invites you to Restoration\, a peer support and education group\, for individuals living with chronic pain conditions. \nAll are welcome. Participation in the group is free but registration is required. \n  \nWhy a Chronic Pain Group? \nOne of our guiding principles at HopeWorks is to work towards the real change that we believe is possible; change for individuals as well as for the systems that fuel violence. We know that we are each a part of this change. \nThe Self-care & Social Justice Projects at HopeWorks are designed to address this principle; providing opportunities for people to be heard\, witnessed\, and to become agents of change in their lives and for the community. These free programs offer the opportunity to address and decrease the root causes of the systems that fuel sexism\, racism\, poverty\, transphobia\, health disparities\, xenophobia\, and other forms of oppression. \nCommunities of color\, populations with a lower socioeconomic status\, rural communities\, people with physical disabilities\, and individuals who identify as LGBTQ are often disproportionately exposed to conditions and environments that negatively affect health risks and outcomes. This is shown to lead to higher rates of health disparities. \n  \nAmerican Chronic Pain Association \nWhen possible\, Restoration will meet in-person at HopeWorks\, located inside the NonProfit Collaborative of Howard County at 9770 Patuxent Woods Dr\, Columbia\, MD 21046. \nThe HopeWorks’ Restoration is the Columbia MD Chapter of the American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA). The ACPA is a nonprofit\, self-help group designed to teach people who suffer from chronic pain (pain that continues longer than six months and is not completely relieved by medication or medical treatment) to reduce the impact pain has on their working and personal lives. \nAll prospective members are welcome to attend this free group.  Email the Director of Community Engagement\, Vanita Leatherwood at vleatherwood@hopeworksofhc.org or call (410) 997-0304 for more information. \n  \nClick Here to Register!
