SUMMARY:"I Can\, I Will": A Teen Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:HopeWorks’ Youth Leadership Project wants to hear from YOU! \nWhat values are most important to you? How can we act within the legacy of Martin Luther King\, Jr. to create the world we want to live in? Where do peace and transformation intersect? \nThis coming MLK day\, HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders\, in partnership with the Howard County Martin Luther King\, Jr. Holiday Commission\, strive to engage and continue these important conversations of non-violence\, peace\, and social justice that Martin Luther King\, Jr. advocated for. \nYoung people ages 13 to 18 are invited to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders as teens engage in conversation around non-violence\, peace\, and social justice. Conversation will involve how these topics may or may not show up in teens’ daily lives and how today’s realities impact their visibility. We hope to learn and share with each other in a way that can provide the most relief. \nThis listening session asks all who are present to be ready to engage verbally. The more conversation the better. The point is hearing what teenagers\, ages 13-18\, think and feel. Your voice is important! \nQuestions? Please contact Victoria Rain\, Community Educator\, at vrain@hopeworksofhc.org. \nClick Here to Register!

SUMMARY:Teen Step One for Youth Leaders & Community Members
DESCRIPTION:Join HopeWorks for a 1-day training created to strengthen\, grow\, and expand your grasp on gender and sexual violence in your own community. \nHopeWorks of Howard County Presents the annual Teen Step One Training. This one-day interactive training for teens ages 13-18 who want to learn to be active bystanders\, advocates for healthy relationships\, and prevent sexual assault and dating violence in their schools & communities. \nTeens will use an intersectional feminist & transformative justice approach in order to learn about the root causes of violence and focus on solutions to preventing violence in their communities before it starts. Teen Step One will rely on a student’s experience in schools\, homes\, and communities to give context to the curriculum. \nThis annual training is adapted from the two-day adult training that goes into much detail about the complexities of gender-based violence. \nStudents of all genders\, races\, religions\, abilities\, etc. are encouraged to attend. \nClick Here to Register!\n  \nREMINDER: All Youth Leadership Project participants are expected to attend Teen Step One training. If you are a teen interested in becoming a Youth Leader and engaging in further conversations around violence prevention and the root causes of violence\, please email Victoria Rain at vrain@hopeworksofhc.org. \nREMINDER: All Teen Volunteer applicants must successfully complete the Teen Step One training to become a volunteer. If you are a teen interested in volunteering and/or has been invited to Teen Step One already\, please RSVP to Sandra Price at sprice@hopeworksofhc.org. \nPlease note that we do not accept group registrations.
