Counseling Services

Are you trying to make big decisions after experiencing trauma?
Feeling overwhelmed with questions after experiencing abuse?
Trying to figure out how to cope with lots of emotions?

Short-term, Trauma-specific Individual Counseling

  • Crisis Counseling Sessions: This is a one-time counseling session for someone who may be experiencing some of the following: panic attacks, severe depression, frequent crying, feeling constantly on guard or in danger, having lots of flashbacks, nightmares, or anxiety or a recent assault. In the crisis counseling session, the HopeWorks clinician will meet with you to offer trauma-specific ways to cope and help you feel less alone as you navigate your healing journey.
  • Ongoing Counseling Services: HopeWorks provides individual and group trauma therapy to survivors of Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence. Unfortunately, we have a waiting list. We will work to fit you in as soon as we can or refer you to another counseling provider that better fits your needs or schedule. Once in treatment, your clinician will start by gathering your history for an intake assessment and then the two of you will set goals for your treatment related to healing from the impact of your trauma related to sexual violence and/or intimate partner violence. Individual counseling aims to increase a client’s ability to cope with the effects of trauma and process the impact the trauma has on a person’s relationships and daily functioning.

Group Counseling

  • Open, ongoing weekly Intimate Partner Violence Group every Wednesday evening for female-identifying survivors of IPV. This is a support group that focuses on different topics related to coping from the impact of IPV. Some of the topics include: The Power & Control Wheel, Cycle of Violence, Healing Strengths, How to Identify Potential Perpetrators, Common Effects of IPV, and Self-Esteem.
  • The 3rd Wednesday of the month focuses on sexual violence, either within an intimate partner relationship or a sexual assault or abuse as a child or adult. The group still functions as a supportive, psycho-educational group where female-identifying survivors can meet others who are trying to navigate their healing after experiencing the trauma from sexual violence.
  • Trauma Recovery Empowerment Model (TREM) Group: TREM is a 16 week closed group that focuses on coping from the impact of trauma in a more in-depth capacity than our weekly open group does. This group addresses the needs specific to survivors of complex trauma including short-term and long-term consequences of violent victimization and symptoms of mental health disorders such as Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. The TREM group is often provided for female-identifying survivors, but we also offer TREM for teens and men when enough clients are interested.
  • Other groups are offered occasionally including children’s self-esteem groups, Teen Girls Sexual Trauma Recovery Group, and a Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Relationships (STAIR) Group. Call the main office if interested.
