24-Hour Hotline: 410-997-2272
When you call HopeWorks, our response is immediate. We are here 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Crisis intervention specialists are on hand to help if you are in crisis, need a safe place, or just need to talk through what you are experiencing.
In an emergency situation, we encourage you to call the police. If you believe your life is in danger, please do not hesitate. Call 911.
The first step to receiving services at HopeWorks is to speak with an advocate in person or by phone. Advocates are here to listen and to share what HopeWorks can do to provide support for survivors of sexual violence, dating and intimate partner violence, and their family members. All of our services are confidential and fees are based on income. No one is ever turned away because of an inability to pay.
Advocates are available Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you need to speak with someone outside of our office hours,
call our 24/7 Hotline at (410) 997-2272.

Our Services
Advocacy
Advocates provide compassionate support, assistance, and referrals to survivors for basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing, and transportation. They can also provide assistance and support with the medical and criminal legal process. Advocates can assist with applying for victim compensation if an assault has been reported to law enforcement; however, survivors can use advocacy services regardless of whether or not they choose to report.
Through our Hospital Accompaniment Program, trained advocates are available 24/7 to provide comfort and support to survivors at Howard County General Hospital.
Emergency Shelter
We provide emergency shelter and transitional housing for survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence, including human trafficking. Our Residential Department provides case management and supportive services for survivors and their children.
Counseling
We offer crisis and short-term counseling, children’s counseling, and therapeutic groups to adult and child survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Individual counseling aims to increase a survivor’s ability to cope with the effects of trauma and process the impact trauma has on their life. Group counseling provides an opportunity to experience support from fellow survivors and counselors who specialize in trauma. Call (410) 997-0304 and ask to speak to an advocate if you are interested in participating in any of our counseling services. Learn more about our support groups.
Legal Assistance
Our Legal Department provides civil legal services including brief advice, information and referrals, representation and consultation in peace and protective order matters, crime victims’ rights, divorce, custody, and other family law proceedings. We also provide consultation and accompaniment with survivors in criminal cases. Learn more about our legal services.
Anti-trafficking Services
All our clinical, residential, legal, and advocacy services are available to survivors of human trafficking. Learn more about our support groups.
Abuser Intervention Program
HopeWorks no longer has an Abuser Intervention Program. If you are seeking assistance, please reach out to Springboard at aip@scsmd.org.
