A Listening Session for Teens
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Part of the Living the Dream MLK Day of Service Celebration: HopeWorks’ Youth Leadership Project Presents a Teen Listening Session
As HopeWorks continues to grow and center our work around creating a world free from violence, we
understand that society’s racist structures have impacted our relationships with each other and the
world. It is important to talk about the ways we engage with each other in terms of peace and
intersectionality; and constantly be open to learn. This coming MLK day, HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders strive
to engage and continue these important conversations of non-violence, peace, and social justice that
Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated for.
Young people ages 13 to 18 are invited to join HopeWorks’ Youth Leaders as teens
engage in conversation around non-violence, peace, and social justice. Conversation will
involve how these topics may or may not show up in teens’ daily lives and how today’s
realities impact their visibility. We hope to learn and share with each other in a way that
can provide the most relief.
